TildeVerse

The TildeVerse is a movement started in October 2014 by Paul Ford that aims to create on-line social networks using the Unix user shell as a platform, and is comprised of Ford's flagship host tilde.club and a number of other hosts inspired by it.

Although tilde.club has been closed for new member applications, there are plans to link TildeVerse hosts with shared e-mail, news, and chat facilities.

(I used to be a member at retronet.net, sunburnt.country, tilde.center, and totallynuclear.club, but they are all gone now. totallynuclear.club at least is archived on the Wayback Machine.)

State of the Tildeverse

Tildee hosts are easy to start, but it is very difficult to attract and maintain a sustainable community. A large number of hosts were created in the initial enthusiasm over the creation of tilde.club, but a large number of them failed to achieve critical mass and were shut down after a few months.

Below is a survey of tildee communities as of 2016/8/13 based on host list http://tilde.club/~pfhawkins/othertildes.html.
